Each year just before Christmas the World Cup men's giant slalom ski race takes place in Alta Badia on the feared Gran Risa run. It attracts sports celebrities and the jet set from all over the world. The start is reached by the ultra-modern gondola lift from La Villa/Stern up to the top terminal Piz la Ila. Having surmounted the initial steep stage straight after the start, skiers can choose between two runs where the track divides: the black run (Gran Risa) and the red run (Alping). From there the descent leads through a sharp bend and a narrow, steep channel which widens out after another change in direction towards the finishing line.
