Pampering on the slopes
After an energetic day’s skiing the body cries out for soothing. Where better than in one of the spa oases situated directly beside the ski runs?
One hotel takes an integral, holistic approach: the Hotel Urthaler near Europe’s vastest expanse of high Alpine meadows, the Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm. It is built entirely of solid wood and the interior rooms have been kept completely free of chemicals and allergens. The spa complex extends over 700 m² and two floors comprising a panorama swimming pool with an outdoor area and a full range of treatments based on products from the South Tyrolean herbalist Dr. Joseph Vitalis.
The 4-star hotel Kreuzbergpass set amid breathtaking Dolomite scenery high above Sesto/Sexten in the Alta Pusteria/Hochpustertal holiday region offers a beauty centre and fitness gym as well as its own ski run and cross-country ski trail directly in front of the building.
The Residence Merano 2000 opened in the winter of 2005 directly beside the downhill run in the ski resort of the same name. Here the main spa attraction is a specially tailored natural anti-ageing programme and plenty more, including a range of massages, baths, plus music and light treatments.
At an altitude of 2,845 metres in a refuge overlooking a glacier one does not expect much in the way of luxury, though the authentic high mountain experience easily makes up for this. The Bella Vista refuge in the Val Senales/Schnalstal glacier resort equipped with a Swedish-style sauna house and a heated outdoor pool is unique and affords superb views of the surrounding mountains, the majestic Ortler Massif and the Ötztal Alps.
