Wine and architecture
Historic cellars and advanced wine-making technology, the South Tyrolean Wine Road unites tradition and modernism, equally in the wines and in the wineries’ contemporary architecture.
Many newarchitectural highlightshave been built on the South Tyrolean Wine Road in recent years. With inventiveness and courage, local architects have succeeded in preserving theauthentic characterof the wineries and adding a modern touch. They focus just as much on functionality and sustainability in processing the grapes as on aesthetics and a new design idiom. The South Tyrolean Wine Museum, housed in a historic cellar, gives an insight into the cultural history of wine-growing in South Tyrol: from historic equipment that guides visitors through a wine estates’ working year, to religious depictions showing many overlaps between wine and religion.
