To experience winter in the Dolomites to the fullest, you don't need to be a winter sport fanatic and go down steep slopes with your skis on. Go off the beaten track and take showshoe hikes through snow covered forests. You'll be blown away by the beauty of winter landscapes.
A leisurely walk from Sesto over the Mitterberg/Monte di mezzo to the Gasthof Panorama with a wonderful view of the sundial of Sesto.
The hike starts directly at the mountain station Stiergarten and leads from there always slightly downhill to the Malga Klammbach and from there on over to the middle station of the cable car Stiergarten. There you can take the gondola back to the valley.
The Völs am Schlern loop trail is a sunny, pleasant stroll with magnificent views over the Ritten plateau and Prösels Castle.
It is a forest path of cosiness, no altitude difference and no special impulses. You will always have the village of Sesto on your left and pass the famous Sexten cemetery. From the reservoir through the forest to San Candido.
Tips and advices: very little difference of altitude and no special efforts, a comfortable forest way. Pass the cemetery and also the Stifts Church in San Candido.
Summary: a very nice and calm excursion with the possibility to mix culture and shopping at San Candido.

A wonderful hike through the larch forests from Sexten to the Innerfeldtal Valley with a direct view of the mountains.
The hike starts directly at the mountain station Monte Elmo, reachable by the cable car Sesto or the cable car Versciaco. From there it goes to the Rifugio Larice and further on the Mitterberg to the valley station Monte Elmo Sesto.
With plenty of motivation, you start the walk in Moos, opposite the Happacher bakery on the asphalted road. Past the Berghotel, always following the road, you reach Froneben guesthouse after approx. 45 minutes

The ‘Drei Zinnen’ display dairy at Dobbiaco/Toblach and the ‘Milk Mile’ at Sesto/Sexten provide answers to questions like this. The local Alpine dairy farming world is explained along an interactive woodland trail. Interested visitors can try their hand at milking using a wooden cow and read how the various cheese types are made.

A wonderful, easy winter hike with a lovely mountain hut to stop at for refreshments.
Starting point is the roundabout in Völs, from where you follow up to Fiè di Sopra/Umes. Turn left at the Hotel Heubad and continue along trail no. 1. The sunny path leads past some farms until you reach the Völser Weiher lake after 45 minutes.
The thirty-minute descent along trail no. 13 to St. Konstantin/ S. Costantino, passing historic summer retreat residences along the way, is recommendable. After a short break at the picturesque church, follow the trail through the meadows and woods back to Völs. This loop-route can also be hiked in the opposite direction.

he Waldkapelle Chapel, an emergency chapel built during the First World War for returning farmers, was used during the Second World War to hold German masses, which were banned by the fascists. The meditation path with 14 stations leads from the Parish Church in Sexten to the Waldkapelle Chapel. Along the way, the stations invite you to pause. To avoid walking back along the same trail, continue along the path and then turn right up towards Gasthof Waldruhe . From there you walk comfortably
along the asphalt road down to the Hösler Höfe farms and the last stretch along the forest path to the starting point.
This beautiful winter’s walk leads up through snowy woods from the Völser Weiher Lake to the Tuff and Hofer Alpl mountain hut. Given that the walk begins at the Völser Weiher Lake, you can also make the most of the opportunity to strap on your skates and take a spin around the lake.
A beautiful, less challenging hike with a perfect view of the Sexten Dolomites. If you are lucky with the weather and know your way around the Sexten Dolomites, you can spot the peaks of the Three Peaks from afar.
