    Hiking in South Tyrol

The sun is out, you’re fully packed – now where do you want to go? The peaks, pinnacles and towers of the Dolomites gleam invitingly in the morning light. Are they even more beautiful from the summit? The valleys are criss-crossed with trails through vineyards and apple orchards, past imposing castles, around enchanting lakes and along the Waalweg canal trails. South Tyrol has more than 16,000 km of signposted hiking trails that run through the ever-changing natural landscape, including themed trails, multi-day tours and high-Alpine trails.

Hike from Pederü to Capanna Alpina
Al Plan/San Vigilio, Dolomites Region Kronplatz/Plan de Corones
A spectacular hike of about 6 hours, in the scenic landscape of the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park.
Departing from the centre of San Vigilio, you will arrive comfortably by bus at the Pederü hut, a perfect starting point for entering the Fanes valley. Take path no. 7, which quickly ascends the valley floor surrounded by austere rock faces. Breathtaking views of the most important peaks in the area open up along the way.

After about two hours of walking, you will come in sight of the Fanes refuge, at an altitude of 2100 m. The hut is located on a plateau, from where you can admire the unspoilt nature of the Dolomite mountains. The hut is a perfect spot to rest before resuming the walk, continuing in the direction of the Lé de Limo (Limo Lake), and then reaching the Gran Fanes malga. From the malga, follow the high route no. 1 to Col de Locia. It is not difficult to imagine how the landscape may have inspired the legends that have spread through this area: the green meadows dotted with flowers and the clear lakes in which the peaks of the nearby mountains are reflected paint a bewitching, fairytale picture.
Continuing along the path you will reach the Capanna Alpina, located in the shadow of the famous Lagazuoi, one of the most striking mountains in the entire Alpine arc.
