    Hiking in South Tyrol

    The sun is out, you’re fully packed – now where do you want to go? The peaks, pinnacles and towers of the Dolomites gleam invitingly in the morning light. Are they even more beautiful from the summit? The valleys are criss-crossed with trails through vineyards and apple orchards, past imposing castles, around enchanting lakes and along the Waalweg canal trails. South Tyrol has more than 16,000 km of signposted hiking trails that run through the ever-changing natural landscape, including themed trails, multi-day tours and high-Alpine trails.

    The shortened variant of the eighth stage of the circular hiking trail 360° Upper Vinschgau Valley leads to the Tellajoch with a typical 360° panoramic view to the mountain peaks of the Ortler group and the Sesvenna group. The 360° viewing platform titles the mountainous panorama.
    From there it continues with insights into the Upper Vinschgau Valleys alpine pasture to Schlinig/Slingia.

    The Art & Nature Trail “Troi UNIKA” puts the focus on art and nature – on the artistic quality of the mountains and on the tradition of carving, deeply rooted in Val Gardena.
    Members of the sculpting association “Unika” and other craft artists have expressed their bond to nature by creating places to linger, contemplate and understand.

    The moderately difficult hike from Spinges/Spinga along the Samweg Trail leads to the summit of the Stoanamandl, between the Eisacktal Valley and the Pustertal Valley. On a clear day the Sexten Dolomites, the Rieserferner group, the Geisler peaks, the Schlern-Rosengarten group and the Sarntal Alps can be seen from the top of the Stoanamandl.

    From Feldthurns, take trail 18, which brings you to Schnauders. From there, follow trails no. 17 and 16 to Garn, where trail no. 10 leads on to Verdings and then no. 3 down to Moar zu Viersch. From there, the Chestnut Trail leads you back to Feldthurns.

    This moderate hike to the summit leads from the Kühhof farm past the Klausner Hütte mountain hut and on to the shelter at the Latzfonser Kreuz summit cross with the highest pilgrimage church in the Alps. The ascent to the Kassianspitze is a thrilling experience for kids who love the mountains.

    Especially in spring and autumn, Feldthurns and its surroundings are highly recommended as a hiking area. The widely known chestnut trail ("Keschtnweg") finds its origin in this picturesque village.

    The hike leads from Terlan via Neuhaus Castle up to the hamlet of Montigl. From the “Moarhof” farm a very steep path leads up to the Helfenberg ruins. From here you go back to Terlan via the same route. Or as an alternative for sure-footed and experienced hikes: path 9 A and path 11 A down to Siebeneich. From there you can take the bus back to Terlan.

    This pleasant walk leads from Compatsch towards Saltria, passing the Ritsch hut and the Monte Piz and over vast mountain meadows to the Sanon hut on a relaxing traverse of the Seiser Alm. The Alpine pastures and mountain huts along the route provide a welcome destination for a relaxing break.

    In the footsteps of the ancient rock paintings of the Waaler.
    We start at the IceForum in Laces and follow trail no. 5 to the Margrinböden picnic area. There we enjoy the view over the castle ruins of Ober- & Untermontani. We then continue to the fork in the path where we follow path number 5a downhill to the Bierkeller. From there, the route leads through the orchards along the tarmac road back to the starting point. Variation: if you prefer a longer walk, you can descend from the Marginböden via the ruins of Ober- & Untermontani Castle and walk back along the irrigation channel path Mareinwaal via the Bierkeller.

    Multi-day trekking tour „Curona de Gherdëina” - On the crown of Val Gardena

     

    “Curona de Gherdëina” is the unique trekking tour on the fascinating mountain crown of Val Gardena on over 2.000 height meters. The 60 kilometres long tour goes from the Natural Park Puez-Odle in the northeast (Unesco World Heritage), to the Sella plateau in the southeast and the Sassolungo mountain group in the south of the valley. The Dolomites show its particular beauty; on every part of the trekking the “pale mountains” seem to take different shapes. Relaxing opportunities are provided in the mountain huts in which you can enjoy typical dishes and live unforgettable sunrises and sunsets.

    The snowshoe hike from Burgeis to the Watles family ski area valley
    Station
    The hike starts at the Fürstenburg Castle parking lot in Burgeis. The route
    leads to the cultural center of Burgeis, past the parish church, along the
    mountain lake back to the valley station. For those interested in culture, a
    worthwhile stop is the Burgeis parish church, with its very unique
    „Tatzelmännchen“ portal (pawed man).

    Walking tour in the Valley of Planeil
    From the mountain village of Planeil, trail No. 6 follows on the broad valley path through sloping meadows to the wall remains of the Petesetteshof farm. Continue on until the way forks left, from here go up to the Planol Alpine hut (2069 m).
    Descent: from the hut downhill through Alpine pasture slopes, following trail No. 10 to above Planeil village and at the end take a steep right down to the starting point.

    Attention: This snowshoe hike requires knowledge of avalanches and snow safety.

    With the Dolomiti SuperSummer Card, the famous Sellaronda ski tour is also walkable in July and August. The Sellaronda HIKE tour is fascinating because of the unique panorama of the four Ladin valleys and three Italian provinces around the Sella massif. Be aware, the tour is very long and requires good physical condition. Start early in the morning with the first lift and take a packed lunch with you.

    From Spiluck to the Scheibenberg Mountain - Zirmait to Spiluck

    This rewarding circular hike leads from the mountain hamlet of Spiluck in the Schalderer Tal Valley near Vahrn/Varna to the Scheibenberg (1,948 m) and back via the Zirmaitalm mountain pasture. The view from the Scheibenberg opens out on to the Pustertal Valley and the entire valley basin of Brixen/Bressanone as well as the mountains of the Puez-Geisler group.
