Wonderful high alpine circular trail with marvellous views over glaciers and peaks from Austria to the Dolomites.
Itinerary
This circular trail starting in Kurzras is spectacular, but requires a certain level of fitness and good footwear. From the Hintere Eis over the ridge to the Teufelsjoch north-west of the Teufelsegglift mountain station, it offers unique views of the Weisskugel and the Dolomites, as well as the entire rear Schnals and Ötztal valleys. Sure-footedness, a head for heights and a good level of fitness are required for the hike. The trail was created in memory of Monika and Michael Grüner, who were great friends of the Schnals mountains and in particular the beautiful view. Three resting places were built from local rock and a summit book was installed in the Hintere Eis.
The start from the Grawand mountain station lets you experience the glacier world up close, as it leads along the edge of the Hochjochferner to the Schöne Aussicht and Kurzras. The descent to Kurzras requires skill and good footwear, but no great mountaineering skills. In the summer months, the "Roter Kofel" chairlift makes the ascent and descent 400 metres easier.
