Hiking

Between Earth Pyramids and Lakes on the Ritten Plateau

Klobenstein/Collalbo, Ritten/Renon, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
Route course: Oberbozen station -> Earth pyramids trail -> Keschtnweg up to Partschonerhof -> Mitterstieler Lake -> Wolfsgrubner Lake -> Wolfsgruben station
from center
From the cable car mountain station, keep left along the tracks to a road where a signpost points left down to earth pyramids trail 23. Follow this road, which turns into a forest path and descends to the right. After just under half an hour (from the starting point), the path to the earth pyramids in the Rivelaungraben branches off. You will reach them shortly and then must return to trail 23. Continue down this trail on a road, passing the Moarhof (refreshment option) and at the next fork turn left again to the next group of earth pyramids. You can now stay on this path and continue hiking, reach a road and then the Keschtnweg on this road. Follow the Keschtnweg left through the forest, past rocks and rather adventurously over bridges to Signat (refreshment option). Here too, follow the Keschtnweg signage and walk along an asphalt road to the Partschonerhof (refreshment option). There you leave the Keschtnweg and turn left uphill onto trail 13. The path is sometimes quite steep uphill but offers views, soon reaching a forest road. From here trail 12 branches off on the right, then winds somewhat steeper uphill again to the left. Continue to the Schwarze Lacke biotope and then to the Mitterstieler Lake. Here you can reach a viewpoint, which is highly recommended to visit. After the lake, keep on trail 12A to the Oartlkopf with its moss-covered rock blocks. Then follows the descent to a wider forest road. Although signage points right towards Wolfsgruben there, if you keep left you will reach directly the Wolfsgrubner Lake (refreshment option) and continue rightwards to the road. Turn left on this road and follow it until you turn right uphill (at the junction to Lichtenstern) to Wolfsgruben station and return from there by narrow-gauge railway to Oberbozen (about half an hour on foot).
