The moderately difficult hike from Spinges/Spinga along the Samweg Trail leads to the summit of the Stoanamandl, between the Eisacktal Valley and the Pustertal Valley. On a clear day the Sexten Dolomites, the Rieserferner group, the Geisler peaks, the Schlern-Rosengarten group and the Sarntal Alps can be seen from the top of the Stoanamandl.
The hike begins at the Bild Wetterkreuz parking area above Spinges, north of Brixen/Bressanone. Trail no. 9 rises gently through the Spinger Wald forest, crossing over the Holzerwiese meadow and up to Lutzbrücke bridge (1,578 m). From there take trail no. 1 past the summer residence of the famous Tyrolean painter, Franz von Defregger and follow the detour on trail no. 1/A to the Altes Karl lookout point (2,031 m). After a fork continue on trail no. 1/A to get to the memorial cross at Jöchlboden and from there, the last stretch to the lookout point on the top of the Stoanamandl (2,118 m) is fairly easy.
The return to Spinges is the same as the way up, except for the detour to the Altes Karl lookout point.
A section of the WWII-era defence line (Alpenwall der Linie des Nichtvertrauens) at the start of the hike has been converted into a lookout point.
