This easygoing hike winds through fragrant forests and sunlit meadows, leading into a peaceful, almost fairytale-like mountain setting. It’s the perfect route for leisurely hikers and families – never too steep, yet full of natural beauty along the way. The destination is Häusler Sam, a charming alpine hut nestled in a quiet clearing surrounded by forest. Here, hikers are welcomed with warm hospitality and delicious South Tyrolean specialties – from homemade dumplings to freshly baked apple strudel. A walk that nourishes both body and soul, and captures the true flavor of the Eggental region.
The hike begins at the upper parking lot in Obereggen (approx. 1,550 m above sea level). From there, follow trail [9] in the direction of Bewallerhof. The path leads gently through forest and meadows and is well marked. Upon reaching Bewallerhof, turn left onto trail [S] (Samweg), also marked as trail [21A].
This section ascends gently through coniferous woods and open alpine pastures. After about an hour of walking, you will reach the Häusler Sam (approx. 1,610 m), a rustic, welcoming alpine hut nestled in a quiet forest clearing.
After a well-deserved break with traditional South Tyrolean dishes, you can return along the same trail. Alternatively, you may choose a circular route via nearby alpine huts – for that, we recommend using a hiking map or asking the hut staff for advice.
Getting to the starting point of the tour by public transport is easy and convenient.
