From Compatsch to the Schlern

At Compatsch, at the information office, follow the road marking n. 10 in the direction of Panorama, but leave it after approx. 500 m at Haus Bernard and turn right into the meadow path. Soon you enter the Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park. The hike now runs through the typical landscape of the Seiser Alm such as extensive meadows, pastures surrounded by trees, marshy areas, natural reservoirs of mountain water, and everything is surrounded by the magnificent Dolomite landscape of the Sella Group, the Langkofel and Plattkofel, Rosszähne and Schlernmassif. Path n 10. leads directly into the forest road n. 5, which leads, turning left, slightly downhill, to the Saltnerhut. After Saltnerhut cross the river Frötschbach over an architecturally very interesting bridge and now enter a landscape that at first glance seems almost unfriendly and almost impassable: the habitat of chamois and deer; also the golden eagle is resident here.
In many serpentines the path leads through extensive mountain pine fields to unite with the so- called Touristensteig (tourist path), marking sign n. 1, which leads through a very interesting natural area from a botanical point of view. Soon you reach the height of the Schlern plateau, and now a pleasant, almost level path brings you directly to Schlernhut on the Schlern in short time. It is usually opened from the beginning of June to the beginning of October.

Alternative: Spitzbühlhut – Schlern

Starting point is the Spitzbühl car park. If you want you can take the chair lift up to the Spitzbühlhut, otherwise you can also hike uphill (ca. 30 minutes) through a larch forest along path n. 5, past Runggerhut to the Spitzbühl. Enjoy the magnificent view of the Schlern, Santner and Euringerpeaks and after a short rest follow path n.5 in a southerly direction and soon you will reach a fork in the road where path n. 10 is coming from Compatsch (see starting point Compatsch) Stay on path n. 5 and follow the hike according to the description.
