Old Joch Path

Vigiljoch/Monte S. Vigilio, Lana, Meran/Merano and environs
The circular hike on Mount Vigiljoch is an idyllic tour through quiet forests and gentle alpine meadows, combining history and nature.
from center

This circular hike on Mount Vigiljoch invites you to discover the quiet beauty of nature combined with a touch of living history. The trail partly follows the old path that villagers once used to walk to Sunday Mass at the small church of St. Vigil.

Passing through peaceful forests and open alpine meadows, the route leads to special natural spots and finally to the historic little church overlooking the valley. The atmosphere along the way is calm and authentic – perfect for slowing down and taking a deep breath.

The hike offers a varied experience for nature lovers, families, and anyone who enjoys culture and landscape in harmony. Several spots along the route invite you to stop and rest, making this walk a relaxing outing for both young and old.

Itinerary
We start our circular hike from the upper station of the Monte San Vigilio cable car and follow the wide trail no. 34, which leads us to the lower station of the chairlift. Below the chairlift, we take trail no. 4 and follow it for about ten minutes. Then, on the left, a narrow path no. 4b branches off, guiding us through a peaceful forest.
Shortly before this path rejoins the forest road no. 4, we have the option to take a short detour to the Family Alm Gampl mountain hut. Staying on trail no. 4, we can either turn right to reach the Sessellift inn or continue left directly to the small church of St. Vigil.
For the return, we can follow the same route along trails no. 4 and 34, or enjoy a pleasant descent by chairlift down to the valley.
