Oberplanitzing/Pianizza di Sopra, Kaltern an der Weinstraße/Caldaro sulla Strada del Vino, Alto Adige Wine Road
This route connects Oberplanitzing with Mitterdorf. Over 5.8 km through sunny vineyards, enjoy beautiful views. Some gentle inclines are present; a companion is recommended.
from center
This mostly flat and sunny hike connects the districts of Oberplanitzing and Mitterdorf in Kaltern. Along the route, hikers can enjoy charming manor houses, wineries, churches, and castles, with panoramic views over the Überetsch region. The trail offers a pleasant mix of nature, culture, and South Tyrolean wine country scenery.
Itinerary

1. Start at Hotel Masatsch, Oberplanitzing
The trail begins at the fully accessible Hotel Masatsch. From here, follow Oberplanitzingerstraße southwards. The path is paved and wide, suitable for both manual and electric wheelchairs. Curbs are lowered for easy street crossings. The surroundings are quiet, with gentle inclines and scenic vineyard views.

2. Garnellenweg & Preystraße
After a few minutes, the path turns onto Garnellenweg, continuing along paved, barrier-free streets. Follow Preystraße until you reach Mitterdorf Church. This first section (approx. 1.2 km) is very manageable for wheelchair users without assistance. Several benches along the way provide resting points, though not all are fully wheelchair-accessible. The area near the church is ideal for a first break with beautiful vineyard views.

3. Steeper Section to Schloss Campan
From the church, the trail becomes more challenging:

  • Follow Krumbachweg uphill to Major-von-Morandell-Platz.

  • Continue toward Schloss Campan over a short but steep section.

This part is the most demanding. A manual wheelchair will require strong assistance, and even with an electric wheelchair, a companion is recommended.

4. Schloss Campan
Schloss Campan is a historic manor with a medieval tower, nestled in vineyards. The castle is privately owned and not open to the public, but the location offers a perfect spot to pause and enjoy the views and atmosphere.

5. Return Route
The return follows Garnellenweg and Preystraße back to Hotel Masatsch. The path is again mostly flat and paved, passing a winery with outdoor seating (partially accessible).

Descent 80 m
