This moderately difficult hike connects Vigiljoch with Aschbach and leads through the peaceful forest landscape of the plateau. Right at the beginning, near the St. Vigilius Church, hikers are rewarded with beautiful views of the Adige Valley and the Dolomites. The route follows mainly shaded conifer forests and offers frequent panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Highlights of the hike include the Schwarze Lacke, a small lake nestled in the forest, and the varied natural scenery between Vigiljoch and Aschbach.
The hike is suitable for families with children who are used to walking, couples, and leisure hikers looking for a scenic route that is mostly downhill. Refreshment stops along the way include Gasthaus Seespitz and Gasthof Jocher.
The hike starts at the upper station of the Vigiljoch chairlift. From there, follow trail no. 4 towards the St. Vigilius Church. After passing the church, continue on the marked trail no. 9 through the forest to Gasthaus Seespitz and then on to the Schwarze Lacke.
From the Schwarze Lacke, continue on trail no. 28A towards Aschbach. The route leads mainly downhill through the forest and finally reaches the upper station of the Aschbach cable car, which marks the end of the hike.
