This varied hike in the Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park leads you through the wild and romantic Tschamin Valley and offers an intense nature experience away from the crowds. The untouched landscape and peaceful atmosphere make this tour particularly special. While the first section gently leads through forests and alpine clearings, the ascent in the Grasleiten area becomes more demanding and gives the hike its sporty character. The Grasleiten Hut is impressively located within the mountain landscape and is not only a starting point for numerous hikes and via ferratas but also a rewarding destination in itself. Here, far from everyday stress, you can fully enjoy the tranquility of the Dolomites and the unique atmosphere of this landscape.
The starting point is at the roundabout in Weißlahnbad. From there, follow trail no. 3 toward Grasleiten Hut and soon reach the Tschamin Schwaige and the historic Steger sawmill, the oldest nature park house in South Tyrol.
Behind the building, trail no. 3 branches off and leads through the wild Tschamin Valley. Accompanied by the Tschamin stream, the path runs through light forests and passes the alpine clearings Schaferleger and Rechter Leger. At Rechter Leger, impressive views open up toward the Tschamin peaks, the rock walls of the Rosengarten, and the striking cliffs of the Schlern.
At this junction, the route continues on trail no. 3A, which climbs significantly more steeply. The landscape gradually changes: the forests become thinner and transition into open slopes with light gray rock formations known as “Grasleiten.”
Further along, the ascent leads to the Grasleiten Hut at 2,165 m, surrounded by the impressive rock walls of the Rosengarten group. Here, you can take a break and enjoy traditional South Tyrolean dishes on the sun terrace or inside the cozy hut.
