A demanding, high-alpine crossing through the Dolomites, transitioning from gentle alpine meadows to high mountain passes and into the stark, cratered, lunar landscapes of the Puez Plateau. This UNESCO World Heritage site has vast open karst fields and dramatic rock formations revealing the geological history of the Dolomites.
The Crespëina Lake, a small deep-blue mountain lake set in the middle of the rugged plateau, is a particular highlight. From here, the trail continues towards the Cir Peaks, whose sharp rock towers dominate the skyline, before descending to the Gardena Pass – one of the most iconic mountain crossings between Val Gardena and Val Badia.

This impressive hike in the heart of the Puez-Geisler Nature Park starts at Col Raiser (2,106 m) and follows trail 4 to the Regensburg Hut (2,037 m). From there, trail 2–3 leads through the Cisles Valley up to the Siëles Saddle (Forces de Siëles, 2,505 m). The route continues along Dolomites High Route 2 to the Puez Hut (2,475 m), located in the heart of the Puez plateau’s lunar landscape.
From the hut, the trail continues via the Ciampei Pass, past the Crespëina Lake, over the Crespëina Pass and Cir Pass, through the striking Cir rock towers towards the Gardena Pass and down to Dantercepies (2,298 m). This section offers a striking variety of landscapes, from high passes and alpine basins to dramatic limestone formations.
From Dantercepies, a cable car descends to Selva, followed by a local bus connection to S. Cristina and Ortisei.
Lifts: Col Raiser gondola / Dantercepies cable car
Note: There are no alternative routes for this stage. Before the Puez Hut, the tour can be shortened by descending into the scenic Vallunga valley (trail 16 – approx. 800 m descent).
