Hiking

Snowshoe hike: Fischleintal Valley – Rotwand

Sexten/Sesto, Dolomites Region 3 Zinnen
from center
A challenging but rewarding snowshoe hike through the forest to the sunny meadows Rotwandwiesen with magnificent views and places to stop for refreshments.
- Steep, athletic ascent through the snow-covered forest – perfect for experienced snowshoe hikers
- Fantastic panoramic views of the Sexten Dolomites and the Fischleintal valley
- Relaxing stop for refreshments on the meadows Rotwandwiesen at the Rudihütte or Rotwandwiesenhütte huts

ATTENTION: Snowshoe hikes and ski tours should only be undertaken by experienced and well-trained mountaineers. Always consider the avalanche risk – carrying complete avalanche safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, probe, and shovel) is mandatory. Check the avalanche report and weather conditions before every tour. Those without sufficient experience should only join such tours in the company of a certified mountain guide.
Itinerary
The starting point for this snowshoe hike is the parking lot at Fischleintalboden (1,454 m). Directly opposite the Fischleintalboden hut, a path branches off into the forest. This is where hiking trail no. 153 begins, heading towards Rotwandwiesen meadows. The trail leads steeply uphill through the snow-covered forest from the start and requires a certain level of fitness. After about 1.8 km and an elevation gain of around 340 meters, you will reach the Rotwand cable car route. From here, follow the cable car route for another 500 meters and a few meters of elevation gain until you finally reach the Rotwand cable car mountain station.
Here, at an altitude of 1,914 m, the wide plateau of the Rotwandwiesen opens up – a magnificent vantage point with refreshments available at the Rudihütte or the Rotwandwiesenhütte. The descent is easy with the cable car or on the same route back down to the valley.

Duration 1h:25 min

Elevation loss 0 m
Highest point 1915 m
