Monte Pana - Saltria

A beautiful running track starting from Monte Pana, located at the feet of the Sassolungo, to Saltria on the Alpe di Siusi.

The track runs partly through the forest along rorest roads, which are closed to motor traffic and finally reaching a breathtaking spot where the forest clears and reveals a wonderful panorama of the entire Alpe di Siusi.
Itinerary

The route begins at Monte Pana, a small high plateau 2 km above S. Cristina at the foot of the impressive Sassolungo Group. From there follow the forest road (path no. 30), which is closed to motor traffic, in the direction of Alpe di Siusi. The first part of the route leads through the forest, after approx. 3 km you reach the route’s highest point, where a forest glade reveals a wonderful panorama of the entire Alpe di Siusi, the largest mountain pasture area in Europe. After another 3 km, you arrive at Saltria. There at the bus stop turn right and follow the path no. 30A back to Monte Pana.

Shorter Variant: Turn after approx. 2.6 km onto path no. 531, which crosses path no. 30A and leads back to Monte Pana.

Longer Variant: Past Saltria to the Hotel Tirler (path no. 9) to Zallinger and from there over the Ochsenwald forest (path no. 531), which ends at the forest road (path no. 30), by which you easily return to Monte Pana.

Details

When running, you should always wear running shoes with non-slip soles. A suitable outfit for the time of year and a trail-running rucksack with a drink are also essential.

At the beginning of the summer season, some sections may still be snow-covered, depending on weather conditions. Please enquire about conditions before setting off on your hike.

To extend the running route, you can start in Selva and reach Monte Pana via the district of La Sëlva.
Bus to the bus stop S. Cristina Municipio/Rathaus , then ascent with the Monte Pana chairlift or by foot via hiking trail no. 30 (approx. 45 min).

Directions
The running track starts from Monte Pana in S. Crisitina, which you can reach by taking the chairlift Monte Pana from the centre of S. Cristina (free car park at the valley station).  You can reach Monte Pana also by private car (chargeable car park) or by foot (approx. 40 min and 200 m of elevation).
Parking
Car park at the starting point: Monte Pana P1 & P2 (chargeable).
Alternative: Bus or car to the valley station of the Monte Pana lift and ascent with the lift.
