Hiking

From Maiern to the Müllerhütte alpine hut

Stange/Stanghe, Ratschings/Racines, Sterzing/Vipiteno and environs
A very challenging high-alpine hike, leading from Maiern to the Müllerhütte alpine hut, passing the Grohmannhütte and Teplitzerhütte alpine huts and Vogelhüttensee lake.
from center

Starting from the Mining Museum in Maiern, at the head of the Ridnauntal valley, the itinerary initially follows trail no. 9. The ascent can either be made through the impressive Burkhardklammgorge (trail no. 8) or by continuing along trail no. 9 outside the gorge. Beyond the gorge, both routes rejoin at the dam on the Aglsböden plateau, leading along trail no. 9 towards the Grohmannhütte and Teplitzerhütte alpine huts.

From here, keep following trail no. 9, passing Vogelhüttensee lake and ascending more steeply to the glacial terminus. After crossing it, you reach the foot of the rocky spur known as “Becherfelsen”, where trail no. 9C leads to the Müllerhütte alpine hut.

Please note: this high-alpine hike requires surefootedness, mountain experience and a good level of physical fitness. The route is recommended for experienced hikers only.

The opening hours of mountain and alpine huts can be found here.
