Starting from the Mining Museum in Maiern, at the head of the Ridnauntal valley, the itinerary initially follows trail no. 9. The ascent can either be made through the impressive Burkhardklamm gorge (trail no. 8) or by continuing along trail no. 9 outside the gorge. Beyond the gorge, both routes rejoin at the dam onthe Aglsböden plateau, leading along trail no. 9 towards the Grohmannhütte and Teplitzerhütte alpine huts.

The starting point can be reached by bus line 312 (Sterzing/Vipiteno – Ridnaun/Val Ridanna). Get off at the final stop, “Bergbaumuseum/Museo delle Miniere”, located directly at the starting point of the hike. From Sterzing, continue towards the Ridnauntalvalley as far as Maiern, at the very end of the valley. The Mining Museum, which marks the starting point of the hike, is located here.
