Itinerary
The start and end point of this round is Auer/Ora. You first cycle towards Bolzano/Bozen and follow the bike path through Bronzolo/Branzoll and Laives/Leifers. South of Bolzano/Bozen, you switch to the bike path towards Caldaro/Kaltern – Appiano/Eppan, where you master a slight incline. Past Appiano/Eppan, head to the inn "Kreuzwegerhof". Here, turn left into the Lavasontal valley, follow the field path through vineyards, and return via the Tramin road to Auer/Ora.
Always wear a helmet and ensure adequate hydration. Follow traffic rules and signage, especially on shared paths.
Recommended basic equipment for cycling tours includes a roadworthy bike, helmet, water bottles, repair kit, and, depending on the weather, appropriate clothing.
Do not miss the old town of Bolzano/Bozen with its arcades and the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology with Ötzi. A visit to Sigmundskron Castle, home of the Messner Mountain Museum, is also worthwhile. At Lake Caldaro, the warmest Alpine lake, you can relax and enjoy the local cuisine.
Auer/Ora is well accessible by public transport. Regular bus and train connections from Bolzano/Bozen and Trento/Trient allow convenient access to the Mitterberg Round.
