Hiking

From Gitschberg to Altfasstal Valley: Panoramas and Alpine Huts to discover

Meransen/Maranza, Mühlbach/Rio di Pusteria, Brixen/Bressanone and environs
from center
This hike from the Gitschberg to Altfasstal Valley offers breathtaking views, alpine lakes, and cozy mountain huts. Perfect for those who enjoy alpine landscapes and an authentic mountain experience. Sure-footedness is required.
Itinerary

Start at the Gitschberg mountain station (2,041 m), which is easily reached via the cable car from Meransen. From here, the trail leads you over Ochsenboden along Trail No. 21. Continue on the Schellenberg Trail No. 6– this section is partially exposed, so sure-footedness is necessary to safely cross the western slope.

From Seefeldalm, descend to the picturesque Seefeldsee lake (2,271 m). From there, continue down to the valley huts in Altfasstal, the Wieser Hut and Pranter Stadl Hut (1,850 m), where you can enjoy a well-deserved break.

The return path initially leads you through the Altfasstal Valley and then through the village back to the Gitschberg cable car base station.

Tip: Rent a bike at the valley huts and enjoy a relaxed ride back down to the Gitschberg base station.
