Long distance hike Lungiarü-Matsch

The route runs through 3 mountain groups, 2 nature parks, and peaceful side valleys, leading over historic mountain passes, pilgrimage paths, and traditional irrigation channels, through larch and stone pine forests, alpine meadows, and past natural treasures such as moors, mountain lakes, and species-rich dry slopes. This 8-stage tour features significant cultural assets like Säben Abbey and the Latzfonser Kreuz, alongside cozy places to stop for refreshments and overnight stays in mountain huts and authentic inns. Covering around 118 kilometers and 8 stages, the route leads from the Ladin Mountaineering Village of Lungiarü (1,380 m) in the east through the heart of South Tyrol to the very first Mountaineering Village in South Tyrol, Matsch (1,564 m), in the west. It involves conquering approximately 7,400 meters of elevation gain and 6,000 meters of descent, with an average walking time of 5.5 hours per day. The tour requires a good level of fitness and sure-footedness, but rewards hikers with impressive landscapes and the unique atmosphere of the two South Tyrolean Mountaineering Villages.
