Sitzkofel, circular hike in Graun – Murundum Trail No. 3
Below the “Claudibrunnen”, opposite the fire station in Graun, we turn onto the Lochweg and walk past vineyards, fields, and fruit trees down to the forest edge. From there, we continue southwest, partly along the forest boundary above the “Grauner Wände”, until we reach the lime kiln, which was restored years ago by craftsmen from Kurtatsch, reviving the art of lime burning.
We then continue to the “Sitzkofel”, probably one of the most scenic viewpoints in the area. In the 1980s, it was anchored into the rock with steel bolts to prevent it from tilting further and falling down towards Kurtatsch.
Continuing west, we reach the “Großer Stein”, a Bronze Age cup-marked stone full of mystery. From here, we follow the road north, passing the village school and returning to the starting point.
A detour to the late Gothic Church of St. George with its Romanesque tower is well worth it.
