Hiking

2 summits made easy – Windspitz and Mittager

Hafling Dorf/Avelengo Paese, Hafling/Avelengo, Meran/Merano and environs
from center

On top of Windspitz peak the gaze wanders over the mighty Ifinger/Mount Ivigna, whose silhouette seems tangible here.

From Mittager/Mount Cantino you get an awe-inspiring panoramic view which reach as far as the most dramatic summits in the Dolomites as well as the Ortler/Ortles and Texelgruppe/Tessa Group.

The hike requires a good physical condition.

Itinerary

From the mountain station Merano 2000 follow the path no 18A. In 1,5-2 hours you will reach the Mittager chairlift/seggiovia Mittager, which bring you up at 2.300 meters above sea level. From there you have to manage 100 meters altitude difference on path no 13A to reach your first summit, the 2.390 meters tall Windspitz. The overwhelming view of the Ifinger/Mount Ivigna compensates the first effort.

Then descend from the Windspitz and continue hiking along the junction to the Mittager/Mount Cantino summit at at 2.422 meters of altitude.

The way back is the same as the way to get there. If you aren't tired, you can extend the way back and hike from Mittager to the Rifugio/hut Meraner further to the Bergstation Piffing/ mountain station Pivigna (path no 13A-18A).
