The Kiens/Chienes– Ehrenburg/Casteldarne – Ilstern – Kiens/Chienes running route combines sporting activity with varied natural and cultural experiences. The route follows the valley floor of the Puster Valley and is ideal for those who want to stay active while exploring the beautiful surroundings of Kiens/Chienes.
Starting in the centre of Kiens/Chienes, the route initially follows the historic Roman Trail towards Ehrenburg. Running through meadows and woodland sections, it reaches the village of Ehrenburg/Casteldarne with its historic centre. From there, the route continues to the famous Roman milestone, one of the best-preserved Roman milestones in South Tyrol.
The course then continues to the Puster Valley cycle path. Here, runners turn left and follow the cycle path towards Ilstern. This section offers ideal conditions for maintaining a steady pace and provides attractive views of the surrounding landscape.
From Ilstern, the route leads back to Kiens/Chienes. The combination of historic landmarks, nature-based trails and sporting activity makes this circuit an appealing running route for both beginners and experienced runners.
Starting from the centre of Kiens/Chienes, follow the Roman Trail towards Ehrenburg/Casteldarne. The route runs along pleasant running and walking paths across the floor of the Puster Valley, passing through meadows and woodland sections before reaching Ehrenburg/Casteldarne.
From there, continue to the historic Roman milestone, one of the best-preserved Roman milestones in South Tyrol. The route then leads on to the Puster Valley cycle path. Turn left here and follow the cycle path towards Ilstern.
This section is mostly flat and ideal for maintaining a steady running pace. At Ilstern, leave the cycle path and return to Kiens on quiet paths.
The running route follows mainly paved paths, forest tracks and sections of the cycle path, making it suitable for both recreational runners and ambitious athletes.
From Bruneck/Brunico, follow the Puster Valley State Road to Kiens/Chienes. The starting point of the hike is located in the village centre.
From the Brixen/Bressanone/Pustertal/Val Pusteria motorway exit, follow the Puster Valley State Road to Kiens/Chienes. The hike starts in the village centre.
Dall’uscita autostradale Bressanone/Val Pusteria si segue la Strada Statale della Val Pusteria fino a Chienes. L’escursione inizia nel centro del paese.
