Sculpture at the roundabout in the street Bozner Straße

Lana/Lana, Lana, Meran/Merano and environs
A bright sculpture at the roundabout in Lana, symbolising arrival, movement and cultural openness.
from center

The sculpture “Sonnenband” by Wolfgang Wohlfahrt and Erika Inger has been a striking artwork in Lana’s public space since 8 September 2009. Positioned at the roundabout on Boznerstraße, it welcomes locals and visitors alike and marks a place of arrival.

The artwork takes the shape of a curved steel band, twisted in on itself, self-supporting and interwoven. Bright yellow meets contrasting black surfaces, giving the sculpture its clear and lively presence. Weighing around 2,000 kilograms and measuring 3.80 x 3.80 x 2.50 metres, it is highly visible while still conveying a sense of movement.

Its rotating form suggests rhythm, energy and lightness. It also recalls an apple peel – a subtle, playful reference to the apple-growing tradition and agricultural landscape of the region Lana. In this way, the sculpture creates a living dialogue between art, technology, nature and its surroundings.

With its open shape and fresh colours, “Sonnenband” stands for encounter, diversity and cultural vitality – one of Lana’s sunny sides.
