    Sellaronda counter-clockwise
    Dolomites Region Val Gardena
The Sellaronda is a top-class ski circuit. Winter sports enthusiasts can expect magnificent views of the snow-covered peaks of the Dolomites, long descents on mostly intermediate slopes, and plenty of opportunities to stop at cozy mountain huts. When you add up the chairlift rides and the descents on the slopes, you cover more than 40 kilometers in about 4 hours. However, you can add as many lifts and slopes as you like. The ski circuit is signposted in both directions, but this tour follows the green markings and goes counterclockwise. The green route offers slightly easier slopes compared to the clockwise-running orange route, but both ski circuits are manageable for average skiers with sufficient stamina.

Following in the tracks of the ancient romans

    Walking Roman roads
A stroll through times long gone
More than 2000 years ago, the Pusteria/Pustertal valley was put under the administrative control of the Roman Empire. Today, a stroll through Casteldarne/Ehrenburg reveals many a witness of the times when the valley formed part of the Noricum Province, formerly a vast Celtic kingdom. A 2 m column sculpted from quartz phyllite is one of the best-preserved Roman milestones. Erected under the rule of Emperor Lucius Septimius Severus Augustus, it marks the distance to the Roman city Aguntum near Lienz in East Tyrol. The magnificent Ehrenburg Castle, which dates back to 1250, is another sight not to be missed. Casteldarne/Ehrenburg with its traditional wooden fences and pretty dry stone walls is the ideal place to stop, sit back and take in the marvellous views of the soft-rolling meadows and craggy peaks of the Fundres/Pfunders massif.
There are a number of inns to take a well-deserved break: Gasthof Gatterer, Gasthof Obermair, Bar Cafè Pub Karo and Hotel zur Post.

    The wine trail
    Schenna/Scena, Meran/Merano and environs

The Wine Trail ties in with Schenna’s centuries-old tradition of winegrowing. More than 20 stations along the way tell of the work in the vineyard, share knowledge, report on historic events and reveal curious facts about the noble grape juice. Over a distance of 5.3 km, the trail leads, sometimes steeply, sometimes in leisurely fashion, through the sun-kissed terroir and in the process provides fabulous views of Schenna Castle and the spa town of Merano. The Wine Trail can be completed in a good hour and a half. However, the many attractions along the way – such as a flavour station – encourage walkers to take a little more time. Not least so that they can pay a visit to the wine cellars and farm shops, which are practically right by the trail.
