    Hühnerspiel [yoke]
Sand in Taufers/Campo Tures, Ahrntal/Valle Aurina

The Speikboden is more than just a favorite ski area. It is also an ideal hiking area. The mountain got its name from a little flower that grows in the high mountains – Alpine valerian, or “Speik” in German – and that is in fact because this lovely flower is often found in the hiking area.

With the cable cars you can reach the "Speikboden Alm" at 2000 metres of altitude or the Sonnklar mountain at 2400 metres above sea level. Both are starting points for fantastic walks and hikes along well maintained trails. Particularly popular are the sunrise walks - to spot the first sunrays while the valley still lies in darkness is a memorable experience.

    Hochfeld 2296m + Bärental 1837m
    Ahrntal/Valle Aurina, Ahrntal/Valle Aurina

Long, sometimes difficult hike, but very rewarding with stunning scenery on route. Trails no. 2, 7a and 7 hike time: 3 to 5 hrs elevation gain: 700 m. From the Klausberg mountian station via trail no. 2 into the Großklausental to the Moser plain. From the alpine hut, situated at an altitude of 1847 m, continue along trail no. 7 to the Gruben alpine hut (2040 m), from where you follow the markings up to Hochfeld. From Hochfeld, follow the markings down to the Hochfeld alpine hut (where you can eat). Important: follow the markings carefully because the trail from Hochfeld to Hochfeldalm is incorrect on some hiking maps. From Hochfeldalm, you can either descend via St. Jakob or return to the Großklausental via the Pferraböden, descending to either Steinhaus or St. Jakob. It is also possible to make a direct descent to St. Jakob crossing the "Bärental".

High Alpine Tour to the Ortler
    Stilfs/Stelvio, Vinschgau/Val Venosta

In order to climb the summit of king Ortles at 3905m, you should stay the day before at the Julius-Payer hut (3.029m). After spending the night at the hut, you will climb up to the "Wandl", which is probably the technically most difficult part of the entire ascent. Now we cross the somewhat steep traverse at the upper end of the "Eisrinne", which has meanwhile become outdated in the upper section and which leads us over the "Bärenloch" up to "Tschierfegg" where the biv. Lombardi is located. This section has become more difficult in recent years due to the severe glacier retreat and you have to overcome a challenging ramp. The "Tschierfegg" is immediately followed by crevasse-rich terrain and a rather steep slope. Above we reach the gentle Ortler plateau where the ascent to the summit is moderate.

Alta via Meranese - Ortles stage 3
    Latsch/Laces, Vinschgau/Val Venosta

The day starts with a descent from Malga Zirmtal (2114 m). Follow the sign for Marzoner Alm/Malga Marzon. The steep path has been partially rebuilt and is in good condition. After a descent with an altitude difference of 300 meters you reach a forest road with signposts. Take the path down to Malga Marzon. Shortly descend on the forest road before you take the so-called Almenweg on the right (signs for Freiberger Mahd and Almenweg). The rather flat path takes you through the light forest until a signposted junction. Turn left (signs for Latschiniger Alm and Kofelraster Seen) and take the partially steep path through the larch forest to Latschiniger Alm/Malga di Lacinigo (1936 m) where the ascent to the Covolo Lakes (Kofelraster Seen) begins. Follow path no.3 with the red and white marking and many bends through the forest before you reach a clear area. Then the path soon becomes steeper. Hike through the mountain basin until the junction near the mountain crest. On the left, you can see the variant (see description below) leading up here from Malga Obermarzon. Continue upwards towards the Covolo Lakes (signs for Kofelraster Seen). As soon as you reach the first of the Covolo Lakes (2407 m), you have to be careful. There is only an old, weathered wooden sign with faded letters (Tarscher Alm/Malga di Tarres). Climb the steep path no.15 and shortly descend from the crest before the next climb. Then you reach the Gran Ladro wind gap (2612 m). Descend on the long, well-marked path to Malga di Tarres (1935 m).
