Kummersee Lake Round Trip in Rabenstein/Corvara
Moos in Passeier/Moso in Passiria, Meran/Merano and environs

The hiking circuit around the Kummersee near Rabenstein/Corvara is easily negotiated and highly worthwhile. Enshrouded in legend, the lake in the Upper Passeiertal Valley combines the splendour of the terrain with the enjoyment of hiking and an appreciation of history. In the summer months, it takes only 2.5 hours to circumvent this former lake basin situated at an altitude of 1,340 m, with an elevation gain of 350 m. Sturdy footwear and thermal, weatherproof clothing is a necessity. Be sure to always stay updated on the current weather and forecast, as well as snow conditions. The eight didactic stations along the lake route help to illustrate the story and peculiarities of these waters and surrounding territory.

Tip: Free folder "Kummersee-Rundweg" in the information offices of the valley available.

Chestnut Trail from Feldthurns to Klausen
    Feldthurns/Velturno, Brixen/Bressanone and environs

This marked trail leads through colourful mixed woodland in South Tyrol, across lush green meadows and along magnificent avenues of trees - a truly special way to experience nature. A continuous band of chestnut trees stretches from Varna/Vahrn near Bressanone/Brixen along the slopes of the Eisacktal valley as far as the Renon/Ritten high plateau and down into the Bolzano/Bozen valley basin. The hiking trail should not only be thought of as a route for the autumn, as the varied vegetation makes it a delightful route for all seasons.

You can also buy regional produce directly from local producers along the Chestnut Trail (Keschtnweg). Natural and manmade features along the Chestnut Trail bear witness to a centuries-old culture, while local villages shrouded in myth are full of tales of witches, fairies and ghosts.

This tour, that can be done from early spring to late autumn, depending on the weather, takes us along the highest grain farm in Europe. Grain was cultivated at this altitude right up to the second half of the last century, when the construction of the dam and reservoir also changed the climate of the Schnalstal Valley. There are archaic structures along this trail that have only changed slightly during the development of mountain farming over thousands of years.

Sand in Taufers/Campo Tures, Ahrntal/Valle Aurina

The Speikboden is more than just a favorite ski area. It is also an ideal hiking area. The mountain got its name from a little flower that grows in the high mountains – Alpine valerian, or “Speik” in German – and that is in fact because this lovely flower is often found in the hiking area.

With the cable cars you can reach the "Speikboden Alm" at 2000 metres of altitude or the Sonnklar mountain at 2400 metres above sea level. Both are starting points for fantastic walks and hikes along well maintained trails. Particularly popular are the sunrise walks - to spot the first sunrays while the valley still lies in darkness is a memorable experience.

The Stuller waterfall is a mighty height of 342 meters consisting of two cascades, and is the third highest in Europe.

About two thirds of the way through the climb there is the possibility to discontinue the ascent and take a footpath to Stuls or descend to Moos. The final section of the via ferrata can also be undertaken as a short journey from Stuls with access via said footpath.
