    Lana Sculpture Walk Trail
    Lana, Meran/Merano and environs

Lana does not own a museum for contemporary art but it has a unique Sculpture Walk Trail leading many kilometres along the whole beautiful Brandis Waalweg and the Ländpromenade to the biotope of the river Valsura and on through the Gola Canyon. This exceptional land art project features open air art works and is continually extended.

Hikers and art enthusiast that take the South Tyrolean Sculpture Walk Trail can experience how artists from all over the world reacted on the given landscape and the changing conditions along the track and how differently they interpreted the nature in their individual works. These art exhibition sites are perfect resting spots and at the same time provide a space for contemplation and self-discovery.

The Sculpture Walk Trail's true nature is best experienced as a journey at an easy stroll. Selected works were placed in key locations, such as crossroads and forks, as a way for walkers to navigate and be spurred on by the works of art. Those who take it slow will be rewarded as the trail reveals the interaction between nature and sculpture - a delight for the eyes, intellect and spirit.

Descent to Luttach via Schöllberg Alm [alpine hut]
    Ahrntal/Valle Aurina, Ahrntal/Valle Aurina

The Speikboden is more than just a favorite ski area. It is also an ideal hiking area. The mountain got its name from a little flower that grows in the high mountains – Alpine valerian, or “Speik” in German – and that is in fact because this lovely flower is often found in the hiking area.

With the cable cars you can reach the "Speikboden Alm" at 2000 metres of altitude or the Sonnklar mountain at 2400 metres above sea level. Both are starting points for fantastic walks and hikes along well maintained trails. Particularly popular are the sunrise walks - to spot the first sunrays while the valley still lies in darkness is a memorable experience.

    Unterstell Naturno/Naturns - Mountainhut Vorderkaser
    Naturns/Naturno, Meran/Merano and environs

The entire Merano High Mountain Trail (no. 24), one of the most stunning trails in the entire Alpine region, is 100 km in length, requires four to six days of hiking and is accessible from the beginning of July to the end of September (depending on the snow situation). At a relatively consistent altitude, this trail connects, to an extent, the high mountain climate of the Texel Group and the sub-Mediterranean climate of the Etschtal Valley. The hike through the various segments gives us a good insight into the world of the mountain farmers who worked to create and maintain this mountain and cultural landscape over the centuries.
