Fischleintal Valley: location

A side valley stretching between Moos and the entrance to the Three Peaks Nature Park, where the Fondovalle refuge (Talschlusshütte) offers spectacular views of the Sexten Sundial.

The Fischleintal Valley/Val Fiscalina starts in Moos/Moso, a hamlet of Sexten/Sesto, and runs lengthwise, with a slight elevation gain, up to the Fondovalle refuge (Talschlusshütte) at 1,548 m. Beloved for its expanses of meadows and forests and its flat terrain, this valley is accessible to all visitors in all seasons.

How to get to the Fischleintal Valley

To really appreciate the majesty of this area, it is worth leaving the car behind and adventuring on foot and by bike, or taking advantage of public transport.

To get to the Fischleintal Valley, you can set off from Innichen/San Candido on the 446 shuttle bus, available in summer/autumn, or the 440 bus from Sexten/Sesto, which takes about an hour. Once you are down in Sexten, you can continue on foot or rent a bike to explore the valley. If you arrive by car, you must leave it in the Fischleintalboden/Pian di Val Fiscalina car park, which is paid and has limited parking spaces.

Staying in the Fischleintal Valley means waking up surrounded by meadows and forests: a beautiful location to discover at your own pace in any season. There are plenty of options on offer, including hotels, rented accommodation and campsites. The Fondovalle refuge (Talschlusshütte) also offers accommodation, making it an ideal starting point for demanding hikes.

Fischleintal Valley: attractions

In the Fischleintal Valley, people who appreciate peace and tranquillity can take in the natural beauty as they walk along the path that spans the entire valley. The landscape – from the flat green valley floor to the coniferous forests climbing up to the base of the Dolomite rocks – offers an immersive experience. From the Fondovalle refuge (Talschlusshütte), you can head up into the Three Peaks Nature Park, while Moos is the perfect spot to admire the Sexten Sundial.

Things to do in summer

In summer, the Fischleintal Valley invites you to take stleisurely rolls to admire the colours and contrasts of the Dolomite landscape. In Moos, you can rent e-bikes and bicycles to explore the valley in more dynamic style, or relax on a carriage ride. The Fischleintal Valley is a good starting point for numerous hiking trails. Climbing to higher altitudes, you can reach various lodges and viewpoints, setting out on loop excursions of one or more days, such as the Three Peaks Nature Park.

Things to do in winter

In the Fischleintal Valley, winter is the perfect season to experience the outdoors. The summer trail can also be traversed in winter, walking on beaten snow. The wheels of the horse-drawn carriages are also equipped to handle the wintery terrain. If you like cross-country skiing, the Fischleintal Valley boasts a 6-kilometre ski slope, between Moos and the Fondovalle refuge (Talschlusshütte), suitable for all levels, with panoramic views of the Dolomite peaks and the snow-covered valley. For people in search of a more challenging activity, you can also go snowshoeing from the Fischleintal Valley to the Sextener Rotwand, with an elevation gain of approx. 400 metres and a time commitment of 2–3 hours.

What to see around the Fischleintal Valley

The Fischleintal Valley is the ideal location for admiring the Sexten Sundial, the largest natural sundial the world, and to access the Three Peaks Nature Park.

At about 1,300 metres above sea level, just before the Fischleintal Valley, sits the village of Sexten. Here, you can visit the museum devoted to the works of the South Tyrolean painter Rudolf Stolz and his brother Albert, whose lives spanned the 19th and 20th centuries. Some of Rudolf Stolz's frescoes can be found in St Joseph's Church in Moos, the Sexten hamlet that marks the beginning of the Fischleintal Valley. It is also known as Bad Moos (Moos Baths) due to the presence of an ancient sulphurous water spring.
