The Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester returns to the Teatro Comunale in Bolzano for its second concert as part of the Bolzano Festival Bozen, again under the baton of Philippe Jordan, whose conducting is distinguished by structural clarity, stylistic depth and vivid musical imagination.
The programme opens with Béla Bartók's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, one of the landmark works of the twentieth century. The composition combines archaic rhythms, a rigorous formal structure and a radically new sound language. The unusual placement of the string sections and the central role of the percussion create a compelling and tension-filled sonic architecture.
The second half of the concert is devoted to Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 4 in E-flat major, the so-called "Romantic". With its vast sonic landscapes, horn-dominated themes and monumental crescendos, the work unites the experience of nature with a spiritual dimension, blending symphonic grandeur with inner stillness.
Programme:
Béla Bartók – Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, SZ 106
Anton Bruckner – Symphony No. 4 in E-flat major "Romantic"
