Echoes of Marabi

Echoes of Marabi brings South Africa and Switzerland together in an impressive album that blends jazz, blues, and memories. At the center are Yonela Mnana, one of South Africa's most impressive voices and pianists, and Benedikt Reising, a Swiss saxophonist with a flair for sonorous depth. They are accompanied by the Soultee Sisters from Katlehong—once opera singers, here as a three-part vocal ensemble that lends depth and atmosphere to the compositions. The album addresses South Africa's present, celebrating history and resilience. The title refers to Marabi, a form of jazz from Johannesburg in the 1930s – influenced by ragtime, jazz, and African roots. An echo from the past – with the sound of today.
