Josu de Solaun brings to the UNIBZ Library, as part of the Bolzano Festival Bozen, a recital of a singular nature, one that deliberately dissolves the boundaries between composition, improvisation, transcription and interpretation. His approach is in close dialogue with the artistic ethos of Ferruccio Busoni, for whom music was never the mere execution of a function, but a continuous rethinking of sound through touch, memory and imagination.
The programme is built around de Solaun's own compositions: a Toccata in explicit dialogue with Busoni, three concert Glosses from the Hispanic Songbook, and the cycle of 21 Tientos. Alongside these, Joaquín Turina's Sonata Pittoresca and Manuel de Falla's Fantasía Baetica — deeply rooted in flamenco and the cante jondo — offer two complementary perspectives on the Iberian idiom in twentieth-century piano music.
Before and after each main work, a short improvisation will be performed: not an introduction or commentary, but a threshold between memory and present action, in which music reveals itself before and beyond the written score.
Programme:
Josu de Solaun – Toccata [Preludio, Fantasia, Ciaccona on a theme by Busoni] (2026)
Josu de Solaun – Three Concert Glosses from the Hispanic Songbook (2026)
