There is probably no dish that captures the diversity of South Tyrol better than the krapfen. Every valley has its own recipes, jealously guarded and passed down from generation to generation. The filling may consist of poppy seeds, jam, chestnuts or other ingredients, and every krapfen reflects the unique character of the region from which it comes.
This is another reason why krapfen are cult favourites – a cult we are now celebrating with the 7th South Tyrolean Krapfen Festival. On this occasion, hard-working farmers’ wives from all over South Tyrol present and sell the fruits of their passion and skill to visitors, who can sample the many varieties to find their favourite krapfen.
