The spaces of Rothoblaas host an event in collaboration with Museion, bringing together two radical visions of sound research: Xiu Xiu, the experimental-alternative duo formed by Jamie Stewart and Angela Seo, and Matthew Herbert, a pioneer of electronic music long committed to pushing beyond musical conventions.
ERASERHEAD XIU XIU by Xiu Xiu
Following the Plays the Music of Twin Peaks project, Xiu Xiu return to David Lynch's imagery, translating it into a total multimedia experience. Sound – shaped through live recordings, handcrafted instruments, modular synthesizers, and elements of musique concrète – enters into symbiosis with a purpose-built visual apparatus of original footage, flashes of light, and analogue textures. The result is a hypnotic soundscape that reworks the film's themes into an autonomous reinterpretation, where dream, memory, and reality dissolve entirely.

For over thirty years, Matthew Herbert has transformed sounds from the real world into political, emotional, and rhythmic material. His latest solo work takes a brutal statistic as its title: in the United Kingdom, food banks now outnumber McDonald's branches – from around 35 in 2010 to over 2,800, which in 2023 distributed more than three million food parcels. The album samples everyday essentials – cans, soap, nappies, rice, shampoo – transforming them into raw sonic energy: experimental electronic music for the dancefloor, capable of energising and destabilising in equal measure.
The ticket includes:
– access to both performances
– access to the symposium SOUNDS LIKE THE FUTURE – Giorgio Moroder across media, arts and communication, scheduled on the same day at 09:30 at the Unibz
