Standing 72 metres tall, the White Tower is one of Brixen’s most distinctive landmarks. Its present-day appearance dates back to 1459, while its name refers to the light-coloured masonry and its characteristic, almost white-looking roof. Inside, a small museum tells the story of the tower, its bells and clocks, as well as the watchmen and fire wardens who once kept guard over the town. To reach the intricate carillon mechanism with its 43 bells, visitors must climb 200 steps. An evening tour offers a special opportunity to discover this fascinating witness to Brixen’s history up close.
