Solar eclipse and shooting stars at the ‘Max Valier’ Observatory

Experience an extraordinary summer evening beneath the starry skies of the Star Village of Gummer|San Valentino! At the "Max Valier" Observatory, you'll have the rare opportunity to witness two spectacular celestial events in one night. First, observe a partial solar eclipse, and after sunset, watch the Perseid meteor shower, the year's most famous display of shooting stars.

From 6:30 pm, the observatory invites you to a special open evening. Together with experienced amateur astronomers, you'll follow the eclipse safely through specially equipped telescopes while learning fascinating facts about this remarkable natural phenomenon. Once darkness falls, attention turns to the Perseids and many other fascinating celestial objects visible through the observatory's telescopes.

Earlier in the day, the South Tyrol Planetarium in the village of Gummer|San Valentino offers a varied programme dedicated to the solar eclipse and the Perseids:

2:00 pm (DE) / 3:00 pm (IT): Fulldome film The Sun
2:30 pm: Workshop for children aged 8 and over – Make Your Own Solar Eclipse Glasses
4:00 pm (DE) / 5:00 pm (IT): Interactive planetarium show Shooting Stars – The Perseids

Admission to the "Max Valier" Observatory is free of charge, and no reservation is required. The planetarium shows can be attended independently of the evening event.

If you'd like to round off the evening with a delicious meal, the nearby Untereggerhof Inn welcomes you with local specialities. Reservations are recommended.
