Orizzonti Creativi - The Madonna of Via Streiter

As part of the Orizzonti Creativi Festival, a poetry reading invites reflection on a particular chapter of Bolzano's city history. Reiner Weissengruber will speak at the Old Town Hall (Conference Room) in "The Madonna of Streiter Lane," an event held in collaboration with the Centrum Latinitatis Europae.

Poetic reflections on a Bolzano that, thanks to the kindness of its humble people, overcame the divisions imposed by history and found a way of coexistence built on prudence, the pursuit of a difficult balance, forgiveness, understanding and a constructive spirit. All of this beneath a seventeenth-century fresco of a Madonna who protected — and still protects today — a neighbourhood that nearly disappeared under the blows of a cruel dictatorship. The people of Bolzano deserve respect, gratitude and admiration for their sense of dignified life despite sometimes harsh trials. Beneath the vaults and arches of the historic city, mercy found fertile ground, and people's smiles make the moments of everyday existence worth living.
