The Bavarian ensemble Maxjoseph approaches folk music in a way that breaks with clichés and opens the door to fresh, extraordinary ideas. Styrian accordion, violin, guitar and tuba – the four virtuoso musicians weave a finely crafted chamber-music texture with an elegance and lightness that one would not expect from a folk setting.
Jazz surfaces in the improvisations, classical training shows in their impeccable interplay, and the broad horizons of four cosmopolitan musicians shine through in countless musical allusions. Maxjoseph's music is a synthesis of art music and popular music, of old and new, of folk and classical – and at the same time an invitation to a dialogue where boundaries blur, yet the music always remains grounded. "NAU" is the title of their latest album and programme: light-footed, charming and full of ideas that reinterpret folk music in a wholly new way.
Line-up:
Georg Unterholzner – guitar
Andreas Winkler – Styrian accordion
Nathanael Turban – violin
Florian Mayrhofer – tuba
