About the film A Train Full of Hope:
A moving historical drama by Cristina Comencini, based on a true story and adapted from the bestselling novel by Viola Ardone.
Set in post-war Italy, the film tells a story of hunger and hope through the eyes of a child torn between two mothers.
The year is 1946. Seven-year-old Amerigo lives in poverty with his mother Antonietta in Naples. In his world, play and a full stomach have only ever been a dream. He boards one of the so-called “trains of happiness” and spends the winter in Northern Italy, where a young woman named Derna takes care of him—unaware that Amerigo’s newfound happiness comes at the cost of a profound act of love.
