Transart26 - Constance Debré in Conversation with Alice Friedland

Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs

A video conversation with Constance Debré on writing, identity, and her book Protocoles – for Transart, with Italian and German subtitles.

from center
Constance Debré, a former criminal defence lawyer from one of France's most influential families, began writing in her late thirties. From her debut Play Boy onwards, a direct and sharp voice runs through all her subsequent books – Love Me Tender, Nom, and Offenses – addressing themes of identity, family, homosexuality, and law. Her sentences grow progressively more spare, her structures more rigorous, her self ever more impersonal. Her latest book, Protocoles, takes the protocols of capital executions in the United States as its starting point, interwoven with fragments of her American experiences – above all in California, which left a deep mark on her.

The evolution of her writing, her literary influences, and her encounters with other writers are at the heart of the video conversation with Alice Friedland for Transart.

In English, with subtitles in Italian and German. The screening precedes Dell'Amore Oscuro and is included in the ticket for the show.
