A meeting of two influential figures in Dutch jazz and improvisational music: guitarist Reinier Baas, “a breathtakingly talented guitarist” (Jazzism), and bass clarinetist Joris Roelofs, who shaped the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw for over a decade. The two have been working together for years—on Baas' albums Relief Party and Reinier Baas vs. Princess Discombobulatrix, for example—but they rarely perform as a duo. The program includes pieces by favorite composers such as Misha Mengelberg, Thelonious Monk, and Duke Ellington, supplemented by original compositions and unusual finds. The result: music with a high risk factor – yet beautiful, surprising, and sometimes even danceable.
