Exhibition. UNDER PROPAGANDA

Archaeology tells history — but sometimes it becomes part of history itself. Between 1920 and 1972, different political regimes in South Tyrol used archaeological finds to legitimise their ideologies: fascists presented Roman testimonies as proof of the region's Latin roots, while National Socialists interpreted the same finds as evidence of a Germanic past. Science was bent to politics, excavations turned into propaganda.

The temporary exhibition UNDER PROPAGANDA examines this chapter critically. For the first time, numerous artefacts from 1920–1972 are on public display, re-examined using updated scientific criteria. Archive documents and interactive stations complement the exhibits; an "underground" trail offers younger visitors an adventure through unexpected stories.
