GEOPARC - Exploratory tour through the Bletterbach Gorge – starting in Radein

Aldein/Aldino

You will embark on a journey through millions of years of Earth’s history on a hike through the Bletterbach Gorge.

from center

Hike between steep rock faces past rushing waterfalls and colourful rock layers, discover fossilised plant remains, fossilised saurian tracks and traces of minerals: a guided tour of the Bletterbach GEOPARC from Radein is a special experience tracing the history of the Earth.

The guided hike begins with an overview of the special features of the Bletterbach Gorge at the GEOMuseum Radein. The GEOPARC guide then accompanies the group along a forest path into the deep porphyry gorge made of volcanic rock. From there, the trail leads upstream to the colourful and varied sandstone layers, and the valley widens. Scientists have found valuable plant fossils and impressive saurian tracks in these layers – and with a bit of luck, the GEOPARC guide will be able to show the group some of the finds right there on the spot. The guides' explanations bring to life the landscapes, climate and inhabitants at the time when the rock layers of the Bletterbach were formed 260 million years ago. The hike leads to the large waterfall, then back to the junction to the so-called Knappenlöcher (miners' holes) and from there back to Radein.
