As part of the Bolzano Festival Bozen, the Busoni Piano Competition presents a series of concerts bridging the world of competition and the beginnings of an international career. Alongside the prize winners of the 65th edition – Yifan Wu, Sandro Nebieridze and Zhonghua Wei – the series also features young pianists who have triumphed at international competitions affiliated with the World Federation of International Music Competitions.
This concert belongs to Nikola Meeuwsen, winner of the 1st Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2024 in the piano category. His programme places two titans of the Romantic piano repertoire side by side: Beethoven's Hammerklavier Sonata, one of the most demanding and visionary works in the entire piano canon, and Schumann's Carnaval, a vivid gallery of imaginary characters that distils the full poetic world of the composer into a series of miniatures.
Programme:
Ludwig van Beethoven – Piano Sonata No. 29 in B-flat major, op. 106 "Hammerklavier"
