The RIAS Chamber Choir Berlin under Kaspars Putnins presents the program Palestrina 500 – Pärt 90, combining works by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (born 500 years ago) with those of Arvo Pärt (born 90 years ago). Both composers are united by the fact that words are at the center of their work. The Missa Papae Marcelli is a masterpiece that, on the one hand, takes into account the intelligibility of the text, but on the other hand is so artfully crafted that it became stylistically influential for many subsequent mass settings. Pärt's works are compelling in their simplicity and have an almost mystical character.
