In this talk, Hannes Gatterer, Head of Institute at the Institute of Mountain Emergency Medicine, explores the relationship between mountain environments, altitude and health from a scientific perspective.
Living, working or engaging in physical activity in the mountains places specific demands on the human body. While stays at high altitude without proper adaptation can involve health risks, activities at moderate altitudes have been shown to offer positive effects, particularly on metabolism and the cardiovascular system.
The talk provides a balanced overview of these aspects and explains why, in the mountain environment as in many areas of life, moderation and a conscious approach are essential. The aim is to foster a better understanding of the opportunities and limitations associated with movement and time spent in alpine settings.
