Relying solely on the power of the spoken word, they bring to the stage the great anxieties of our age: from climate change to economic uncertainty, right through to the fragility of emotions. The real driving force behind the production, however, is its overwhelming irony. Duncan Macmillan, an English playwright known in Italy for *Every Brilliant Thing* and his more recent *People, Places & Things*, crafts a script brimming with rapid-fire dialogue and everyday neuroses, which Monti and Alberti navigate with unique comic mastery. With their ability to alternate between emotion and sarcasm, the two protagonists render a deeply intimate story universal, presenting us with a portrait of a couple that is at once ruthless and liberatingly cheerful.
